VERY SAD NEWS: The Demeter Project and It's a Grind are closing this Friday, Oct. 7

With a very heavy heart, we are very sad to report that The Demeter Project and It's a Grind will be closing their doors this Friday, Oct. 7. It's a Grind will close its Deep Ellum doors at 6 p.m. on Friday.

And of course, because of this very unfortunate turn of events, the Oct. 15 event we had scheduled with Serena Simmons Connelly and Amy Fauss of The Demeter Project and It's a Grind is cancelled.

We asked them to share the news in their own words:

"It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closing of It’s A Grind Coffee House and Demeter Project. For the past three years, The

Demeter Project has worked to impact our community by paying a living wage and providing health care benefits to the employees at It’s A Grind Coffee House, in order to address issues of poverty, discrimination, and profit-only focus in today’s business culture. While we have seen successful outcomes and significant change in the lives of our employees and in the community building that has taken place, the overall project has not proven to be financially feasible.

There is sadness in closing the Demeter Project, but we are optimistic about the growing movement of social enterprises in North Texas. We remain hopeful about the impact that creative, innovative entrepreneurs can have on our community. "

Please join us in thanking everyone associated with The Demeter Project and It's a Grind for working with such commitment and diligence to try to improve working conditions in America, and to make our community and world a better place for all.  And make plans to visit It's a Grind before 6 p.m., this Friday, Oct. 7, and thank them in person.

You can take DART's Green Line to the the Baylor University Medical...
