Maybe you have the shoes. And the sunglasses. So now is your chance to get a signed copy of the book!
"Start Something that Matters," the first book by TOM'S Shoes (and TOM'S Sunglasses) Founder and CEO Blake Mycoskie was released yesterday (Tuesday, Sept. 6), and the Arlington native and former SMU student will be selling and signing copies in person THIS FRIDAY, Sept. 9, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Neiman Marcus Northpark!
A serial entrepreneur, Mycoskie founded TOM'S Shoes five years ago after meeting volunteers in Argentina who were helping to provide shoes for children by running a donation-driven shoe drive. He was taken by the need and the effort, and decided to find a more sustainable way to tackle the challenge, and TOM'S Shoes (short for Tomorrow's Shoes) was born as a for-profit enterprise. The privately held business is built on Mycoskie's own One for One business model (buy one pair of shoes, and a pair of shoes is given to a child, etc.), which since has inspired other businesses and has grown into a movement.
Mycoskie, who shuns the CEO moniker for Chief Shoe Giver, had started and sold several businesses, including a college laundry service he created while at SMU, before founding TOM'S Shoes with the vision of being a sustainable force for good in the world.
In June, Mycoskie expanded the TOM'S brand and force for good with the launch of TOM'S Sunglasses, which will help give the gift of sight to a person in need for every pair of glasses sold.
We hope to see you at Neiman's Northpark this Friday!! And to learn more about Mycoskie and TOM'S, check out the links below:
